Basketry of Guacamayas, a small village located on an ancient settlement of Lache and Tunebo Indians, who traditionally manufactured handcrafts from straw (the leaf of a palm tree and "fique" (also called cabuya) of Maguey. These vegetable fibres are biodegradable and ecological.

Originally, these pieces were used for food gathering and in sacred rituals and ceremonies. The technique used is called “spiral basketwork”, first making rolls of straw, and then wrapping them with "fique" threads to form a flat or ascending spiral. Fique fibres are dyed with natural pigments in a boiling process.

Today, the artisans, around 400 women, use the same raw materials to make decorative objects: baskets, dishes, fruit bowls, plate mats, etc. that changed their ceremonial role for a utilitarian one. It takes from two days work to several weeks each piece. You may choose them with handlings and supports of "German" silver to add and elegant and contemporary touch to your home decoration.
